Sizing elements
You set an element's size in the Element tab of the right panel in the editor. You can give it a fixed width and height, or use the Auto size options to make it fill the full width, full height or the whole of the visitor's screen.
Changing an element's size manually
To give an element a fixed size, select it on the canvas and use either of these methods:
- Drag the frame: drag the sides or corners of the element's frame on the canvas.
- Type exact values: open the
Elementtab in the right panel (wrench icon) and enter a width inWand a height inH, in pixels.
To keep an element's proportions while you resize it, click the lock icon next to the W and H fields. The lock icon is available for images, videos, shapes, slideshows, vectors and web components, and only when the element uses the manual size option. Images with the Proportional alignment (the default) and videos that don't use Fill (the default) always keep their proportions, so their lock icon is locked and greyed out.
Resizing the frame of a heading or text element changes the area the text can fill, not the size of the text. To make the text bigger or smaller, change Size under Typography in the Element tab.
Making an element fill the screen
To make an element fill the full width, the full height or the whole of the visitor's screen:
- Select the element on the canvas.
- Open the
Elementtab in the right panel. If you don't see theWandHfields, click the wrench icon at the top of the tab. - Find the
Auto sizerow below theWandHfields. - Click the icon for the size you want. Hover over an icon to see a description of what it does.

The Auto size row shows four icons for most elements, such as images, shapes and videos:
- Manual: you set the width and height yourself. This is the default.
- Full width: the element spans the full width of the visitor's screen. You can still change its height and move it up or down, but you can't change its width or move it sideways.
- Full height: the element spans the full height of the visitor's screen. You can still change its width and move it sideways, but you can't change its height or move it up or down.
- Full screen: the element fills the visitor's whole screen, both width and height. It has no resize handles and can't be moved on the canvas.
"Screen" here means the visitor's browser window, not the size you designed the scene at. For example, if your scene is designed at 1280 × 720 px, a full-width element still spans the whole width of the visitor's browser window. To give an element a fixed size again, click the manual icon.
When the full-size options are unavailable
The full width, full height and full screen icons in the Auto size row are greyed out when:
- the element is an image button, an audio element or a group
- the element is inside a group
- the element is rotated
If you group an element that uses full width, full height or full screen, it switches back to the manual size option and Maglr shows "Grouping a fullscreen element is not possible, auto changed size to width/height."
Sizing text elements
Headings, text, buttons and tables have their own Auto size options, which control how the frame fits around the text. Hover over an icon to see its description.
Headings and buttons have three options:
- Fit horizontally: the frame's width and height follow the text, so you can't set them yourself.
- Fit vertically: the frame's height follows the text, and you set the width.
- Manual: you set the frame's width and height yourself.
Text and table elements have two options:
- Fit around the text: the frame's height follows the text, and you set the width.
- Scrollbar: the frame keeps a fixed size and shows a scrollbar when the text doesn't fit inside it.
If you drag a text frame's handles while it fits around the text, the frame switches to the manual option (for text and table elements, the scrollbar option). The exception: when the frame's height follows the text (Fit vertically, or Fit around the text), dragging only its left or right side changes the width and the height keeps following the text.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I select full width, full height or full screen for an element?
The full width, full height and full screen options in the Auto size row are unavailable for image buttons, audio elements and groups, for any element inside a group, and for rotated elements. For an element inside a group, ungroup it first. For a rotated element, set the rotation field (the ° field next to X and Y in the Element tab) to 0.
Why did my text frame stop resizing to fit the text?
Dragging a text frame's top, bottom or corner handles switches its Auto size option to manual (for text and table elements, to the scrollbar option). A frame set to fit horizontally also switches when you drag its left or right side. To make the frame fit the text again, select the element, open the Element tab (wrench icon) and click the fit icon you want in the Auto size row.
Does making a text frame bigger change the font size?
No. Resizing the frame of a heading or text element only changes the area the text can fill. To change the size of the text, change Size under Typography in the Element tab.
