Maglr focusses heavily on fast loadtimes of publications, in order to realise the best possible viewing experience. However, there are also several things you can take into account when developing your publication in order to maintain this experience. A general rule of thumb is: the more content is in your publication, the longer it will take to load.
Some further tips to improve your load times are described below:
- Amount of elements: the system has to lead each individual element along with its setting. This is generally a fast process, but many individual elements, each with its own effects and animations, might sometimes results in load times being longer than usual.
- A lot of pages: whenever a publication is viewed, Maglr first loads the initial landing page and loads up all other pages in the background. This is done in order to create a flawless viewing experience. When there are many pages in your publication however, or when your viewer wants to skim through specific pages the publication, it can take a toll on the system and slow down loading times for pages. Try not to use too many of unnecessary pages then to get your message across.
- Large / inflated files: typically users think that using large image files is good, because it means that the viewer will always see a great quality image. While this might be true for print, it is not the case for web. On web, viewers have to load every piece of content that they are viewing. The bigger the file size, the longer it will take for a viewer to load. An image for web then never has to be bigger than twice the size of the resolution that you would like to display it in. If you're going to display an image inside a box of 100 x 100 pixels, the image itself never has to be bigger than 200 x 200 pixels.
- Viewers slow internet: not everyone has a high speed internet connection. While Maglr does its best by making a mirror of the publication for different countries, this unfortunately isn't something you can truly control. The only way you can take this into account is by applying the above tips to your publications.
