Activate & send web notifications

A web notification is a handy way to keep readers informed about new updates in addition to your newsletter. A web notification opens a small notification window with a link to the publication on desktop & (Android) smartphones. As soon as a user clicks on this notification, they will be directed to the specific page.

Activate web notifications

Before you can use this functionality, web notifications must be activated on the specific domain name on which your projects are published. Note that a visitor must actively sign up for this functionality. From that moment it is possible to send notifications. Click here to read more about activating web notifications.

Note: this functionality can only be used with our Presenter module and is shared with the Presenter apps. Through these apps, it's possible to send all sorts of push notifications.

Send a web notification

Sending a new notification is easy. In the dashboard you will see the option to create a new notification under the '**Send**' menu tab. Before you send a notification, users must be registered on the specific domain name.

Choose domain

Choose to create a new notification. If you have multiple environments, it is possible that there are multiple domain names that have web notifications activated. Choose the domain name where you want to send the message to. The number of subscribers indicates how many people can potentially receive this push notification.

Notification title: enter a short title, to describe your push notification. The notification title is limited up to 60 characters.
Type a message: type in the message of the push notification that you would like to send to your subscribers. The message is limited up to 128 characters.
Referral URL: enter the URL of the publication where you would like the subscribers to go to when they click on the notification.

Review traffic in the statistics

With every push notification that is sent, we attach a so-called UTM code to the referral URL. This code is processed in the link, making it easier to trace where specific traffic is coming from. If you have sent a web notification, you can see this data (referring sources) back in the basic dashboard statistics or in your own Google Analytics account. It's also possible to use your own UTM codes. In this situation, we do not automatically add our UTM codes.
