An interactive publication created in Maglr needs to engage, inform or convert its readers. The way in which companies are using Maglr is very different. In most cases, they send their publications and content to their customers (outbound). Content in the form of customer magazines, annual reports or staff magazines that are shared with a specific target audience via email, social media or intranet (public or secure).
Another approach is to share your specific content and knowledge and attract visitors searching for information (inbound). Think of white papers, e-books, infographics, product brochures or informative brochures. In this scenario, where you do not actively share your publication through newsletters or social media, search engines play a major role. They are the largest source of incoming traffic.

The difference between a website an a Maglr publication?
In the background, Maglr is a normal website published as a static HTML / CSS / JavaScript. Some differences are the form of navigation and the visual layout of pages. What distinguishes itself from a normal webpage, is the interactive layout of a page and the way in which a marketer or designer is able to organize such a page (freely).
Technically, a search engine is perfectly capable of searching through all texts and images, where the structure takes the best possible account of current SEO rules. From a semantic SEO perspective, the user is responsible. Because of visual freedom, texts could be crisscrossed. It is up to the user to take into account, for example, the text order and the optional marking of titles (h1, h2).
How good is Maglr's SEO optimization?
The technical design and layout of a page, in addition to the content, influences the position in Google. However, this is not the only factor that plays a role. Linkbuilding and domain authority are just as important and are parts we are not directly having an influence on. We offer as many tools as possible via the options below to ensure a project, that is published in Maglr, can be found in the search results as good as possible.
Guarantees are only difficult to give in this area. But if we make a comparison, it is important to know that an equivalent, manually programmed or optimized page by a developer, theoretically does it better than a page published with Maglr. However, Maglr's target audience is not the developer who could adjust every part of a page in detail. We focus on our users, that are mostly marketers and designers, who must be able to do it themselves. We assist our users as good as possible in the preparation of creating a beautiful and functional indexable publication.
- Optimize pages that are designed in Pro
A page that is set up in the Pro editor can be freely arranged by a designer or marketer. Technically, we have little control over the semantic structure during publishing. It is up to a designer to take account of the stratification and therefore the order of how a page is arranged. It is possible to provide Title with Header tags where the editor gives advice on where there is room for improvement (Update Q2 2020). - Optimized Block templates
Content blocks dragged into a Block template are optimized by default. In 2021 a new beta version of the template editor will be released with more options regarding SEO and accessibility features. - Indexable embedded pages within your corporate site
You can publish a multi-page publication or create/extract a single page and embed this inside your corporate website. This could be an infographic inside a blog or a fullscreen campaign page between the header & footer of your website. By default, this functionality is using iframes but in case you need a higher SEO performance you can use our 'advanced inject functionality'. The HTML content of this embed is directly injected between the header & footer. Now it's not an external source but really a part of your website, boosting the SEO performance. By default, we generate meta tags for search engines, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. From the dashboard, you have the option to change these tags (title, description and thumbnail) per page. Each time you publish a page, we generate a sitemap next to it. Search engines will find this sitemap to check what pages are available or has been updated in the meantime. - Optimized URL structure
In Q2 of 2020, we have released a new version of the navigation environment with a better readable URL structure. Not only for visitors but also for search engines. You are able to adjust this URL per page. (Example: domain.com/projectname/pagename) - Multi-language for search engines
You can publish a Maglr publication for multiple languages. In the code of the publication, we are indicating search engines what languages they are looking at, and what other language versions are available. - Google Scheme per page
A better way to tell Google what the structure of your page looks like. See this functionality as an advanced version of the regular meta information. Depending on the type of page you created we set up the title, description and image of a page in a format the Google search engine can easily crawl and understand. Coming in 2021, we will also offer a way to customize the scheme. For example, a FAQ page where you can structure the content differently in a way the answer is directly shown in the Google Search page, and thus gaining more traffic to your publication. - Publish locally on your own domain in a subfolder (Enterprise license required)
By default, all of the content created with Maglr is published on our servers using a subdomain. This could be a Maglr subdomain or your own custom subdomain (name.domain.com). Appointing a subfolder (domain.com/folder/) to our hosting servers is a function that is not available in domain name forwarding.
In a lot of scenarios, using a subdomain is not a problem. You can clearly keep your digital magazine apart from your corporate website. In case you are going to use Maglr for (inbound) publications, the already built up authority and backlinks on your main domain could be important. New content you would create with Maglr can benefit from this. When publishing this content on a subdomain (what would be a new domain for Google) you have to start from scratch.
For this scenario, we can offer a way where we publish and sync the content to your local hosting environment. The published static content can be used separately (offline) from our Maglr servers. Any inbetween updates are directly pushed from the Maglr dashboard to your local server. The published static content be added to a subfolder of your choice. A publication can be connected to Google Search Console for more detailed information about your SEO performance and index errors in Google. - Google Analytics & standard dashboard statistics
By default, we offer a Google Analytics integration where all different types of user events are being tracked. Events like page visits, button clicks, video play, scroll depth and more. These statistics will also tell you how all organic traffic is performing and which specific pages are being indexed best. For a more advanced integration we offer an integration with Google Tag Manager. This tool is the best way to integrate third-party tools or tracking codes within Maglr and make use of all available data & events we make available. More info. - Domain name with SSL encryption
An important must-have for search engines, all of the domains are available with an encrypted SSL protection. This is not only for the default domains, in case you would like to connect your own subdomain through DNS to our server we activate a SSL TLS 1.2 certificate. - HTTP2 / GZIP & Speed of page
A fast website is important for ranking. We are not always in control of the amount of content users are putting into a page. But we can make sure that the content is loading fast enough. Data is stored in Amsterdam but shared through an internal CDN proving a fast experience wherever you are located in the world. By publishing a publication, assets are automatically scaled down to load as fast as possible served in an HTTP2/GZIP compression. - Mobile-first version
It’s almost standard nowadays as a given but it’s good to mention that publications, that are made with Maglr, are responsive in design. For the Block template, a mobile version is automatically generated within the editor. For the Pro pages, you have to arrange a mobile design from the desktop version yourself. Google recognizes the format of a Maglr and will activate the ‘Index mobile version first’ approach by default.
