How do I separate internal & external publications?

Not all of the publications you create are designated for public (external) use. Some (internal) projects should be hidden and/or protected from public view. In this article, we'll guide you through the best practice of separating your internal publications from your external ones.

Step 1

To start off, let's create two categories to separate your internal projects from your external ones. This will also help you in connecting your domains to both types of projects in the next step.

Step 2

Secondly, you would want to create two domains: one for internal publications, and one for external publications.
Connect the internal subdomain to the category used for internal publications.
Secure this domain via a login-link or password (depending on your wishes). This will automatically enable this type of security for all projects that are going to be published to this domain.
Optional: enable the 'overview page' to show an overview of all projects when your viewers navigate to the general domain (for example: internal.publications.com)

Connect the external subdomain to the category used for external publications.
This domain does not need any security settings, as you're going to use it for external viewers.
Optional: enable the 'overview page' to show an overview of all projects when your viewers navigate to the general domain (for example: external.publications.com)

Step 3

Both subdomains are now configured to only show projects in their connected categories. That means that, when you're creating a new project, all you need to do is to make sure that you place it in the correct category.
