Gated content f.a.q.
How secure is a content gate?
A content gate is a low level security feature. Do not use this functionality for important documents, as we offer more advanced security features for these situations.
We partially open the information to search engines and close some pages (depending on your content gate configuration) for the viewer. By choosing this configuration, very clever developers know how to hack the document and extract the content. We have deliberately chosen this setup.
How can I test the content gate more than once?
Once you have completed the form or used the skip gate URL, a cookie will be set. This cookie ensures that visitors do not see a form again the next time. A cookie is set for the domain on which the project is running. If you want to test the form again, you can delete the cookies. In Google Chrome, this is easy: click on the Lock in front of the URL in the address bar and choose to delete all cookies for that domain. After reloading the page, you will see the content gate again.
Can search engines index the information behind a content gate?
We have chosen to keep the information as accessible as possible to search engines. The system is visually locked so that it becomes impossible for a regular visitor to read the content. Search engines that retrieve the textual information of a page would be able to index any page. When a visitor ends up on the page, the content gate is activated, whereby one must first log in to continue sharing.
Can a visitor share the URL?
Yes, the URL can be shared. Note that if person 1 has registered to a gate and shares page 5, person 2 will still see the content gate first.
How can I send customers a link without activating a gate?
For every content gate that you activate for a project, a skip gate URL is available. You can find this URL at the bottom of the content gate settings. This URL gives a visitor access to the complete publication without activating the content gate.
Can I use a form on multiple projects?
Yes. A form can be set up in the forms module by using multiple pages or content gates. Keep in mind that if you use a form on the same domain for multiple publications, a viewer will have access to all publications that use the form after filling in 1 gate. We assume that filling in the same form again has no added value, since the viewer has already registered.
Is a content gate multilingual?
If it concerns a content gate with only one form, you can set multiple languages within the form itself. The chosen language of the publication then automatically activates the form in the correct language. If you use a Pro page as a content gate, you need to prepare a separate Pro page in a specific language for each separate translation of the publication.
Can I measure the performance of a 'content gate'?
Yes, we send out different events when a gate opens, closes or is successfully submitted. Click here to read more on measuring your content gate.
