Let viewers share your publication

The Share tab lets visitors of your published projects share the current page or the whole publication on LinkedIn, Facebook, X or WhatsApp, or by email. You turn it on with the Share publication option in the settings of your navigation environment: the interface around your published projects, made up of the navigation bar and the side menu.

Turning on the Share tab

To add a Share tab to the side menu of your published projects:

  1. In the dashboard, go to Settings → Navigation environment.
  2. Click Edit settings on the navigation environment you want to change.
  3. Open the Side menu tab.
  4. Under Activate options, on the Share publication row, tick Sidepanel.
  5. Optional: also tick Navigation menu on the same row to add a share icon to the navigation bar.
  6. Click Save navigation.

The two checkboxes on the Share publication row do the following:

  • Sidepanel: adds a Share tab to the side menu.
  • Navigation menu: also adds a share icon to the navigation bar, which opens the Share tab. You can only tick this box after you tick Sidepanel.

The setting applies to the whole navigation environment, so every project that uses that navigation environment gets the Share tab.

What visitors can share

In the Share tab of a published project's side menu, visitors first choose what to share:

  • Share this page: shares the link to the page they are on.
  • Share this publication: shares the link to the publication as a whole.

They then share that link on LinkedIn, Facebook, X or WhatsApp, or by email.

The Share tab also shows the current page's thumbnail, meta title and meta description. These come from the page's metadata. To change them, see setting up the correct metadata.

Changing the Share tab texts

You can set your own title and description for the Share tab, per language. If you leave the fields empty, visitors see a default title and description in that language. In English, these are "Share this page" and "Forward this page by email or share it directly on social media."

  1. In the dashboard, go to Settings → Navigation environment.
  2. Click Edit settings on the navigation environment you want to change.
  3. Open the Texts tab.
  4. Select the language tab you want to edit.
  5. Open the Share section.
  6. Fill in Title share panel and Extra description to explain share options.
  7. Repeat steps 4 to 6 for any other languages.
  8. Click Save navigation.

The Share section in the Texts tab is greyed out until the Share publication option is turned on in the Side menu tab.

Frequently asked questions

Can visitors share from an embedded publication?

No. The Share tab never appears in an embedded publication, even when the Share publication option is turned on in the navigation environment settings.
