Scroll to scene or element by URL

You can send visitors straight to a specific scene or element on a page by adding ?scene= or ?element= and its name to the page's URL. When someone opens the link, the page scrolls to that scene or element.


Linking to a scene


To create a link that scrolls to a scene, give the scene a name in the editor and add that name to the page's URL:


  1. In the editor, open the Scenes panel.
  2. Click the name field next to the scene you want to link to and type a short name, for example pricing. A name without spaces or special characters is the most reliable.
  3. Publish the page.
  4. In the dashboard, open the project and click Share project. The Link to project tab opens.
  5. In the dropdown, select the page that contains the scene, then click Copy.
  6. Add ?scene= followed by the exact scene name to the end of the link, for example https://www.domain.com/publication/page?scene=pricing. If the link already contains a ?, add &scene=pricing instead.
  7. Open the link in a new browser tab to test it.

The scene name must match exactly, including capitals. A scene has one name, which is used on both desktop and mobile.


Linking to an element


To create a link that scrolls to an element, give the element a name in the Layers panel and add that name to the page's URL:


  1. In the editor, open the Layers panel.
  2. Double-click the element's name and type a short name, for example signup-form. A name without spaces or special characters is the most reliable.
  3. If the element has a separate mobile version, click Mobile in the left toolbar and give that element the same name in the Layers panel.
  4. Publish the page.
  5. In the dashboard, open the project and click Share project. The Link to project tab opens.
  6. In the dropdown, select the page that contains the element, then click Copy.
  7. Add ?element= followed by the exact element name to the end of the link, for example https://www.domain.com/publication/page?element=signup-form. If the link already contains a ?, add &element=signup-form instead.
  8. Open the link in a new browser tab to test it.

Requirements and limitations


These rules apply to links that scroll to a scene (?scene=) or an element (?element=):


  • Page format: scrolling to a scene or element works on pages whose Scene behaviour is set to Standard scrollpage in the Scenes panel.
  • Exact names: scene names and element names are case sensitive, so Pricing and pricing are different names.
  • One target per link: if a URL contains both scene and element, only the scene is used and the element is ignored.
  • Mobile versions of elements: the link only finds an element in the layout the visitor is viewing. If an element has a separate mobile version, give it the same name in the mobile layout, or the link won't find it when the page shows its mobile layout.
  • Testing: open the link in a new browser tab, because your browser may restore the previous scroll position of a page you already had open.


Frequently asked questions


Why does my link open at the top of the page instead of the scene or element?


The page opens at the top when the link can't find its target. Check that the name in the URL matches the scene or element name exactly, including capitals, and that you added it to the link of the page that contains the scene or element. Scrolling to a scene or element works on pages whose Scene behaviour is set to Standard scrollpage in the Scenes panel. If you're testing in a tab where the page was already open, open the link in a new tab, because your browser may restore the previous scroll position.
