Change environment texts

You can change the texts visitors see in a navigation environment, such as panel titles, pop-up texts and the cookie notice, separately for each language. The navigation environment is the interface around your published projects: the navigation menu, the side menu, the overview page and the pop-ups.



Changing the texts of a navigation environment


To change the texts of a navigation environment:


  1. In the dashboard, open Settings and choose Navigation environment.
  2. Next to the environment you want to change, click Edit settings (the pencil icon). The Navigation settings panel opens.
  3. Open the Texts tab.
  4. Select the tab of the language you want to edit, for example English.
  5. Open a section, for example Search or Cookie consent, and enter your texts.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each language your publications use.
  7. Click Save navigation.


Visitors see the texts of the language a publication is viewed in. If you close the Navigation settings panel without clicking Save navigation, your text changes are not saved.

Texts you can change in a navigation environment


In the Texts tab of a navigation environment's settings, each language has these sections:


  • SEO description: the brand or website name, the name of the publication environment and the default meta description that search engines show.
  • Overview page: the title and short description on the overview page, where visitors switch between publications.
  • Extra information: the title and text of the information panel in the side menu.
  • Contact: the title and text of the contact panel, and the thank-you message after the contact form is sent.
  • Link website & socials: the links to your social media and website, and the alternative text of the logo. Links must start with https://.
  • Search: the title and description of the search panel.
  • Share: the title and description of the share panel.
  • Subscribe: the title and extra information of the subscribe panel, and the thank-you text after subscribing.
  • Login: the title and description of the login page that appears when an environment or project has a manual password.
  • Email login page: the title of the email login page. This section only appears for accounts that have email login.
  • Cookie consent: the title and description of the cookie pop-up.
  • Register tooltip: the title and short call-to-action text of the register pop-up, which visitors see once on the second page.
  • Help tooltip: the title and text of the pop-up that explains the navigation to first-time visitors.
  • PDF download: the title and explanation of the PDF download option in the side menu.


Each text field has a character limit. Longer text fields show a counter, for example 0/250, so you can see how much space is left.


Frequently asked questions


What do visitors see if I leave a text field empty in a navigation environment?


Most fields fall back to Maglr's default text in the language the publication is viewed in. For example, an empty search panel title shows "Search" and an empty cookie pop-up title shows "This publication uses cookies". The fields in the SEO description, Overview page and Email login page sections, and the Extra information text, have no default text. For a language without default texts, Maglr shows the English default. To use your own wording, fill in the field in the Texts tab of the navigation environment's settings and click Save navigation.


Why is a section in the Texts tab of a navigation environment greyed out?


The Extra information, Contact, Search and Share sections are greyed out when the matching option is off in the side menu: Extra information, Contact form, Search option or Share publication. To edit the texts, open the Side menu tab in the Navigation settings panel, select the option's checkbox in the Sidepanel column, and click Save navigation.


How do I add navigation environment texts for another language?


The Texts tab only shows a tab for each language that is active for your account. To add texts for another language:


  1. Go to Settings > General settings.
  2. Under Languages, select the language's checkbox and click Save settings.
  3. Open the navigation environment's settings and the Texts tab. A tab for the new language now appears there.
  4. Enter the texts for that language and click Save navigation.
