The navigation environment


A navigation environment is the interface around your published projects. It holds the navigation menu that visitors use to move between pages, the side menu with extra functions such as search, sharing and a contact form, the overview page, and the logos, colors, fonts and texts of all of these. Your plan includes one navigation environment by default.


Opening the navigation environment settings


To change the settings of a navigation environment:


  1. Go to Settings → Navigation environment.
  2. Click Edit settings next to the environment. The Navigation settings window opens.
  3. Choose a tab: General, Logos, Overview page, Navigation menu, Side menu, Colors & fonts, Contact, Subscribe or Texts.
  4. Change the settings. In the Overview page, Navigation menu, Side menu and Colors & fonts tabs, a preview shows the result.
  5. Click Save navigation.


Changes aren't saved automatically. Click Save navigation before you close the window, or your changes are lost.


Navigation environment settings tabs


The settings of a navigation environment are grouped in these tabs:


  • General: the name of the environment and Show navigation help tip. This tab also has the Maglr branding option, which shows a small Maglr icon at the bottom of the side menu.
  • Logos: your logo in three places: Logo on overview page, Favicon in browser tab and Logo in navigation menu.
  • Overview page: the layout of the overview page (for example Basic overview or Scroll overview) and the Background for overview & login page. The overview page only shows on a linked domain name whose Choose root action is set to Show the overview page with all projects.
  • Navigation menu: the menu visitors use to move through a project. You set it separately for Slide navigation, for Stack navigation (only when stack navigation is part of your plan) and for Presenter apps (only with the Presenter module). Settings include Choose navigation type, Menu bar position and Button style.
  • Side menu: the options visitors can open from the side menu: Contact form, Search option, Extra information, Share publication, Subscribe and, when it's part of your plan, Download PDF version. You can also add each option as an icon in the navigation menu, and show links to other projects (Show other publications) and other pages (Show other pages (thumbnail style)).
  • Colors & fonts: the colors and fonts of every part of the navigation environment.
  • Contact: where contact form submissions go: to one or more email addresses, to a Zapier or Make integration through a webhook, or both. This tab works only when Contact form is turned on in the Side menu tab.
  • Subscribe: the subscribe call-to-action and where new subscriptions go: by email, to a webhook, or both. Visitors can only subscribe once Subscribe is turned on in the Side menu tab.
  • Texts: the texts shown in each part of the navigation environment, for every language you have enabled.


Projects and domain names in a navigation environment


A navigation environment has no limit on the number of projects it shows. If your plan has a project limit, it applies to the whole account.


Domain names connect projects to a navigation environment. Each domain name uses the settings of the environment it's linked to. To link a domain name to an environment:


  1. Go to Settings → Domain names.
  2. Click the pencil icon next to the domain name.
  3. Choose the environment under Choose navigation interface.


By default your account can have 5 domain names for each navigation environment in your plan: 5 with one environment, 10 with two. The limit counts across your whole account, not per environment, so you can link all of these domain names to the same navigation environment. Your plan may set a different number. Preview and alias domains don't count toward this limit.


Settings that are set per domain name


Analytics, cookie consent, main language, Google Search Console and search-engine indexing are set per domain name, in each domain name's Statistics & integration settings — see Statistics & integration settings for your domain.


Adding more navigation environments


You can add extra navigation environments when your organisation has multiple product labels, departments or countries that need separate domain names, branding and navigation settings. You add one with Add environment on the Settings → Navigation environment page, once your plan includes more than one environment. To get more environments, click Upgrade license or contact Maglr. Frequently asked questions


Why doesn't the overview page show?


The overview page only shows on a domain name whose root action is set to the overview. To switch it on, go to Settings → Domain names and click the pencil icon next to the domain name. Under Choose root action, choose Show the overview page with all projects. This option is only there when the domain name's filter is Show all projects within one or multiple categories and at least one category is selected. The Overview page tab of the navigation environment sets only the layout and background of the overview page. If no linked domain name shows the overview, the tab shows the warning No domain with overview available.


Where do the details of new subscribers go?


When a visitor subscribes, Maglr sends the details by email, to a webhook (for example a Zapier or Make integration), or both, depending on the Subscribe tab of the navigation environment settings. The email goes to the addresses set in the Contact tab, or to the account's primary user when no address is set. If the webhook fails, Maglr sends an email instead. Maglr doesn't keep a list of subscribers to send messages to.
