Share directly from dashboard

To share a project on social media from the dashboard, open the project's Share project panel, go to the Social media tab, pick a page and a network, and click Share this link. The social network then opens in a new browser tab with the post prepared, ready for you to post.

Sharing a project on social media

The Social media tab only works when the project is active and published, and has no security: Activate security is off in the project's security settings, and the project's domain is set to Public (no security). If either condition isn't met, the tab is greyed out. To activate your project, see Publish your project live.

  1. Open your project in the dashboard.
  2. Click Share project in the project's sidebar.
  3. Click the Social media tab.
  4. In Choose a page, select the page you want to share. The preview gives an idea of how the post will look, with the page's image, title, description and link.
  5. In Choose a social network, select Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or Pinterest.
  6. Click Share this link. The social network opens in a new tab with the post prepared, and you finish and publish the post there.

You can also open the same panel from the projects overview: open a project's menu and click Share. The Share project panel also has other tabs, depending on the project, such as Link to project, Share single page, Send email, Embed code, Export .zip and Download PDF. This article covers only the Social media tab.

Changing the text and image of the social post

The text and image of a social post can't be edited in the Social media tab. They come from the shared page's metadata and thumbnail, so you change them in the page or project settings:

  • Title: the page's meta title, if one is set. If the page has no meta title, the title is the page title followed by the project's meta title, or by the project title if the project has no meta title either.
  • Description: the meta description of the page. If the page has none, the project's meta description is used, and if the project has none either, the default meta description set in the navigation environment.
  • Image: the page's thumbnail. To use a different image, set an alternative thumbnail under Page thumbnail in the page settings.

Social networks read these values from the published project, so publish the project again after you change them.

A meta description set on a page overrides the one set on the project, and a project's meta description overrides the default of the navigation environment. To learn where to set each one, see Set up the metadata for your project.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the Social media tab greyed out?

The Social media tab in the Share project panel is greyed out when the project is not active and published, or when the project is secured. A project is secured when Activate security is on in its security settings (for example with a password or an auto-login link), or when its domain uses any security other than Public (no security), such as a password, dashboard login, Single Sign-On or an IP filter. Activate and publish the project, or turn off its security, and the tab becomes available. The message in the tab links to Open project settings, where you change the project's own security; domain security is changed in the domain settings.

Can I edit the post text before sharing?

No, not in Maglr. The Social media tab only lets you choose a page and a social network. The post's title and description come from the page's and project's meta title and meta description (or their titles if no meta title is set), so change those to change the text. After you click Share this link, you can also edit the post on the social network itself before posting it.

Which social networks can I share to?

From the Social media tab in the Share project panel, you can share to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Pinterest.

Your browser is probably blocking popups. Maglr then shows the message "Please allow popups for this website", and the social network doesn't open. Allow popups for the Maglr dashboard in your browser settings and click Share this link again.
