Convert a project into a template

Working with templates in Maglr can save precious time and provides content that’s laid out in the company’s color scheme, fonts, layouts, buttons, icons and other assets. This option can help businesses with multiple users working with the Maglr platform. The main account is able to configure these template projects, where employees are able to choose these when creating a new project or adding a new page.

Choosing existing templates

Creating a new project (Pro & Block templates)

When a user starts a new project (depending on the type of publication/editor) one can choose to start from a blank project or choose from a pre-filled example project. You can then add extra blank or example pages when needed. You can choose per publication type what sort of pre-filled projects will be shown in the overview.

Adding separate Pro pages

Once a project has been created, additional pages can be added from the page overview. The default window here is an overview with blank page types. From the side menu on the left, you can choose from different ready-to-go sample pages. This list can be further expanded with your own additional Pro templates.

When adding a template page

By default, you will see the complete library of Block templates available in Maglr. These pages are using a default preset with content provided by Maglr. You are able to overwrite these templates with your own name, thumbnail and preset content. Instead of the standard overview, users will see the same set of templates but styled in corporate identity with the correct preset content inside.

It's also possible to only show the pages/templates you selected in your template project and hide all other templates. In this scenario, the main account is able to pick the specific templates employees can use. This option can be found under the General settings through the dashboard. Click here for more information about general settings in Maglr.

How to create a template project

In order to convert an existing project into a template, open this project and go to the project settings. Here you will see a tab called template preset, from which you can convert the project into a template for all of your colleagues to use.

Note: when converted, this project will be set to 'inactive' and will be placed in a separate menu. A template project is not used for live publications. This means that it cannot be used as an existing project anymore. In order to keep this project activated, duplicate it and convert the duplicated project into a template! You could also move designed pages into this project once activated as 'template project'.

Template projects in practice

In the example below, we create a new project with 3 Pro pages and set it up as both 'Example project' and 'Pre-filled pages'.

Depending on the publication type, this project now appears under the templates category on the overview page. This is only visible for the main account. You can recognise these template projects by their purple colored bar in the overview.
