Font types to use
There are many different font file formats, new and old. Older formats origin from older computer systems such as Mac OS Classic and Linux. Most people use fonts files that are accustomed to Windows and Mac OS. The formats below are recommended when you want to upload your own fonts to use in our editor:
TrueType/TTF: This format is specifically for Windows users, but can also be used by Mac users. It is the most commonly used font file type and is known for its flexibility and all-round good quality. If you have the option, we recommend this format for its universal usage.
OpenType/OTF: This format is specifically for Mac users. Typically, when you download a font from a website they supply you with both .ttf and .otf files for Windows and Mac.
Web Open Font Format/WOFF: This format is specifically designed to be used on websites and other online environments.
There isn't any particular difference to the user, but to the editor of the fonts, it matters as when they're making the fonts they have different output settings. Click here to see how you can upload your own fonts or enable Google fonts.
Note: when downloading or using fonts, ensure that you are legally allowed to use the specific font through licensing. Most fonts allow for all kinds of both non-commercial and commercial usage, but some require a purchase of the font which comes with a commercial license to use.
