Add a form to your project

Add a form to a page with the Form element. You can build the form in Maglr, or embed a form you made in Hubspot, Marketo, Pardot or Mailchimp. Forms are saved in your account, so you can place the same form in several projects.

You can also use a form as a content gate: visitors must submit the form before they can view the rest of the publication. This is mostly used for lead generation. See Configure a content gate.

Adding a Form element to a page

To add a form to a page, place a Form element and open the form editor from it:

  1. Open the page in the editor.
  2. Click Add at the top of the left toolbar.
  3. In the Add elements drawer, open Specials.
  4. Drag the Form element onto the page.
  5. With the Form element selected, click Select or edit form in the right panel. You can also double-click the Form element on the page.
  6. The form editor opens on the forms overview, which lists all forms in your account. To use an existing form, click Select form next to it. To make a new form, click New form.
  7. Choose Create your own form to build a form in Maglr, or Embed an existing form to use a form from Hubspot, Marketo, Pardot or Mailchimp.

Creating a form in Maglr

To build a form in Maglr, click New form in the forms overview and choose Create your own form. The form editor then takes you through two steps, Build and Settings.

In the Build step, you add fields to the form:

  1. Drag fields from the left panel into the form area.
  2. Click a field to set its options in the right panel, such as its label, name, placeholder, error message and Make this field mandatory. The options differ per field type. For Drop-down, Radiobuttons and Multi checkbox fields, fill in a value for every option.
  3. Add a Submit element. A form needs a Submit element before you can continue.
  4. Click Next step.

You can add these field types:

  • Title
  • Text
  • Input text
  • Text area
  • Drop-down
  • Radiobuttons
  • Checkbox
  • Multi checkbox
  • Divider
  • Captcha (once per form)
  • Submit (once per form, required)

In the Settings step, you name the form and choose where responses go:

  1. Under Form settings, fill in Form name. The name is required.
  2. Under Send response to, choose Email and enter one or more email addresses, separated by a comma or semicolon. Or choose Webhook and enter a webhook URL, for example from Zapier. An email address or a webhook is required.
  3. In the next drop-down, below the email address or webhook field, choose what visitors see after they submit the form: Show thank you message, or Redirect to URL and fill in the Redirect URL. The thank-you text is the success message you set on the Submit element in the Build step.
  4. Optionally, adjust the look of the form under Form design, Element design and Submit button design.
  5. Click Save form.

After saving, you return to the forms overview. To place the form on your page, see Placing a saved form on the page.

Embedding an existing form

To use a form you made in Hubspot, Marketo, Pardot or Mailchimp:

  1. In the forms overview, click New form.
  2. Choose Embed an existing form.
  3. Fill in Form name.
  4. Under Type code, choose the service the form comes from.
  5. Paste the form's embed code in the embed code box.
  6. Click Save form. You return to the forms overview.

Each service has its own article on where to find the embed code:

Placing a saved form on the page

To link a saved form to a Form element, select it in the forms overview of the form editor:

  1. In the forms overview, click Select form next to the form. The form editor closes and the form is linked to the Form element.
  2. Check the right panel: it now shows the form's type, name and last modified date.

In the forms overview, the form already linked to the element has a highlighted border. Visitors can fill in the form once the project is published.

Managing your forms

The forms overview in the form editor lists all forms in your account, and every form is available in all your projects. To open the overview, select any Form element and click Select or edit form in the right panel. By default the list shows all forms (Show all forms); use that filter to show only the forms made by one person. Each form in the list has these icon actions:

  • Edit: change the form's fields or settings.
  • Duplicate: make a copy of the form.
  • More information: see who created the form, its type, the date it was created and whether responses are sent by email or webhook.
  • Delete: remove the form.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the same form in more than one project?

Yes. Forms are saved in your account, not in a single project. Any form in the forms overview can be placed on a Form element in any of your projects with Select form.

Where are form responses sent?

Responses from a form built in Maglr go to the destination set under Send response to in the form's Settings step: one or more email addresses (Email), or a webhook URL (Webhook). To send responses to a tool such as Zapier, choose Webhook and enter the webhook URL from that tool.

Why can't I continue to the Settings step?

There are two reasons Next step can stay blocked in the Build step:

  • The form has no Submit element yet. Drag the Submit element into the form.
  • A Drop-down, Radiobuttons or Multi checkbox field has an option without a value. The error message names the field. Click the field and fill in a value for each option in the right panel.

Then click Next step again.

Why can't I edit the form on the mobile layout?

When the mobile layout inherits its content from the desktop layout, you can only select or edit the form on the desktop layout. Switch to the desktop layout and click Select or edit form there.

How do I use a form as a content gate?

A content gate hides your publication behind a form: visitors must submit the form before they can view the rest of the publication. See Configure a content gate.
