Preview & test your project


You can preview a Maglr project in two ways:


  • The preview link shows the whole project as readers will see it, with transitions between pages, effects and interactions. You publish it from the dashboard or the editor, and anyone with the link can open it.
  • The editor preview shows the page you are editing, including unsaved changes, at different device sizes. Links to other pages don't work in it.

A preview link is a separate link to a test version of your project, with a unique code in it. Anyone with the link can view it. To publish or update the preview link from the dashboard:


  1. Open the project in the dashboard to go to its page overview.
  2. Click the blue Publish button in the top right.
  3. Under "Temporary preview", click the grey Create preview button the first time, or Update preview after that.
  4. The first time only: in the "Preview Link" panel, choose whether to tick Enable comments option in preview, then click Save to publish the preview.

The preview link does not change when you edit the project. Changes appear on the preview link only after you click Update preview again.


The preview link keeps working until you click delete preview in the Publish menu.



You find the preview link behind the orange button next to Publish in the project's page overview. To open or share the preview link:


  1. In the page overview, click the orange Preview button (labelled Open when the project is active).
  2. Click the Preview row.
  3. Choose an action:
    • Open to view the preview.
    • Copy to copy the link to your clipboard.
    • QR Code to get a QR code, for example to open the preview on a phone.
    • Send to email the link to recipients.

If the project has never been published, the menu shows "Publish a preview" with a Publish preview button instead.


Publishing from the editor


The Publish button in the editor's top bar, next to Save and Preview, publishes your changes to the preview link or to the live version. To publish from the editor:


  1. In the editor's top bar, hover over Publish.
  2. Click Publish for preview to update the preview link, or Publish live to update the live version.


Publish live is available only when the project is active (the Project active switch in the Publish menu in the dashboard), when there are changes to publish, and when your role allows live publishing. If the project is inactive, the editor shows "Project inactive. Activate to publish." Publish for preview is greyed out when there are no modified pages to check.

Previewing a page in the editor


The editor preview opens the page you are editing in a "Page preview" popup, so you can check it at different screen sizes. It shows the current state of the page, including unsaved changes. To preview a page and test screen sizes:


  1. Click Preview in the editor's top bar, next to Save, or press Cmd+P (Mac) or Ctrl+P (Windows).
  2. In the header of the preview, choose Desktop, Tablet or Mobile, or hover over one of them to pick a specific device.
  3. To try any size, choose Fitting, then drag the right edge, the bottom edge or the bottom-right corner of the preview.
  4. Optional: with Desktop, Tablet or Mobile selected, click Rotate window to switch between portrait and landscape. Rotate window isn't available in Fitting.

The editor preview shows one page only. Links to other pages don't open in it, and external links open only in a new window, after you click Open link. To check links and transitions between pages, publish a preview link and open it.


Frequently asked questions



A preview link keeps working until you click delete preview in the Publish menu in the project's page overview. Publishing the preview again with Update preview changes what the link shows.



Yes. Anyone who has the preview link can open it. The link contains a random code, so people can't find the preview without the link.


Why can't I click through to other pages in the editor preview?


The editor preview shows only the page you are editing. When you click a link to another page, a message says the link can't be loaded in the editor preview and asks you to publish a preview first. When you click a link to an external site, a message offers Open link to open it in a new window. To test links and page transitions, publish a preview link from the Publish menu and open it.


Do I need to save before previewing in the editor?


No. The editor preview shows the current state of the page, including changes you haven't saved yet. The preview link is different: it shows your changes only after you publish the preview again.
