Securing your project(s)


You can secure a single project so that only people you give access to can open it. Maglr offers two methods: a password that visitors must enter, or a login link that gives access to anyone who opens it. To secure all projects on a domain at once, see Edit domain settings.


Project security options


Project security is set in the Security tab of a project's Project settings. After you switch on Activate security, you choose one of two methods:


  • Secure with password: visitors must enter a password you set before the project opens.
  • Automatically generate a login link: Maglr creates a secret link. Anyone who opens this link gets access to the project without a password.


You can use only one method at a time. Switching one method on switches the other off. If Activate security is on but neither method is on when you save, Maglr switches security off and shows "Security settings incomplete. Please review".


Securing a project with a password


To secure a project with a password:


  1. Open the project from the project overview.
  2. Click Project settings in the menu on the left.
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. Switch on Activate security.
  5. Switch on Secure with password.
  6. Enter a password in the Password field.
  7. Click Save.


Visitors now see a password screen and must enter this password before the project opens. If you click into the password field and leave it empty, you'll see "Enter a password".



To secure a project with a login link:


  1. Open the project from the project overview.
  2. Click Project settings in the menu on the left.
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. Switch on Activate security.
  5. Switch on Automatically generate a login link.
  6. Click Save.

When a visitor opens the login link, Maglr logs them in to the project and then opens the project's normal address. That address only works in a browser that came through the login link. If the visitor copies and shares the address they landed on, other people get an error page. Only the login link itself gives access, so always share the login link.


Sharing a secured project


You share a secured project's link from the Share project panel. The link is only available when the project is active. To share it:


  1. Make sure the project is active. If it isn't, click Project settings in the menu on the left, switch on Active on the Basic information tab and click Save + Publish.
  2. Open the project and click Share project in the menu on the left.
  3. On the Link to project tab, check that you see a lock icon with "Project secured with auto-login link" or "Project secured with password".
  4. Click Copy to copy the link.

For a project secured with a login link, the copied link is the login link. For a project secured with a password, share the password separately with the people who need access.


If the project is inactive, the panel shows "Project inactive, no public link available. Use the temporary preview link." instead of a link.


Turning off project security


To remove security from a project:


  1. Open the project and click Project settings in the menu on the left.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Switch off Activate security.
  4. Click Save.


The project is then open to anyone who has its link.


What changes when a project is secured


When a project is secured with a password or a login link:


  • The project doesn't appear in the domain's overview. Visitors can only reach it through its own link.
  • Access to one secured project doesn't give access to other secured projects on the same domain.
  • The login link has no expiry date. It doesn't open the project while the project is inactive.
  • The Share single page, Social media and Embed code tabs of the Share project panel are unavailable. To embed the project or share a single page, you first need to turn off security.


Recognising a secured project


A lock icon on a project in the project overview means the project, or the domain it's published on, is secured. In Project settings, the icon of the Security tab also changes to a lock when security is on.

Securing new projects automatically


Account admins can make every new project get a login link automatically. To switch this on:


  1. In the top menu, click Settings and choose General settings.
  2. Under Project security, tick Automatically secure projects.
  3. Click Save settings.


New projects that users create then get a login link. This setting applies the login link, not a password. If you don't see this option, contact support@maglr.com.


Frequently asked questions



No. A project can use only one security method at a time. When you switch on Secure with password or Automatically generate a login link in the Security tab of Project settings, the other method switches off.



No. The login link has no expiry date. It doesn't open the project while the project is inactive. If you turn off security, the project is open to anyone who has its link.


Why can't I embed a secured project?


The Embed code tab of the Share project panel is unavailable while a project is secured with a password or a login link. The same applies to the Share single page and Social media tabs. To embed the project, turn off security in the Security tab of Project settings first. If the domain the project is published on is secured, these tabs stay unavailable until domain security is off too.


Can new projects be secured automatically?


Yes, if your account has this option. Account admins can go to Settings > General settings, tick Automatically secure projects under Project security, and click Save settings. Every new project then gets a login link automatically. If you don't see this option, contact support@maglr.com.


How do I secure all projects on a domain?


Domain security is set in the domain settings, not in a project. See Edit domain settings for the steps.
